• GENERAL [United Press Association.] London, December 31. The Daily Chronicle’s Milan correspondent reports that the Italian Government has unearthed a vast Aus-tro-German conspiracy, with ramifications at Naples, Genoa, Florence, and Milan, to corner contraband and foodstuffs, footwear, blankets, and war material, and exporting them through an Adriatic port. The Customs authorities at Genoa seized an £BOOO consignment of military cloth, intended for Germany and Austria. In connection with Fstrignano’s and Fiori’s arrest, the police have discovered at the hitter’s residence £12,000 worth of orders from German and Austrian firms for contraband supplies. Many German commercial travellers are sojourning in the large cities for the sole purpose of purchasing secretly and exporting forbidden merchandise. The Government has warned them that it will be to their advantage to depart.
