HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. The programme now showing at His Majesty’s features a remarkable budget of pictures. World-events are well pictured in Pathe’s War Gazette, which include the arrival of Britain’s first war prizes, ‘the arrival of German phips captured by Britain’s grey searovers, the French Army advancing on the Germans through Alsace-Lor-raine, children playing oil the sands ever guarded byyßrityin’s war dogs, Kitchener’s 1004000 receiving their pay, and many other events.- The star drama, “A Deal with .the Devil,’* }» of special moral quality, showing plainly the folly, of overleaping ambition. A young doctor student, while studying night after , night, is overpowered with sleep. He dreams that the devil appears to him and offers, him the power to cure any disease if he .will give ten years of his life. The student accedes. In his dream he suffers terrible grief and pain at the hands of MCphistopheles. Other pictures are the “Silver Snuff Box” (drama), “A Desperate Chance” (drama), “The Adirondack Mountains” (scenic), and two comedies, “Cowboy Clarence,” and “Three of a Kind.”
BELGIAN RELIEF FUND. WANdANUI GARRISON BAND CONCERT. On Sunday afternoon residents of Stratford and surrounding district will have an opportunity of hearing the Wanganui Garrison Band give one of their attractive open air concerts, in aid of the Belgian .Belief Funds. Those of our readers who have already heard the band will he delighted to have another opportunity of listening to music, which, under Conductor Wade’s skilful guidance, is marked by that refinement and artistry which has won such a reputation for the hand during the past twelve years. The programme to ho given on Sunday is in keeping with the hand’s traditions, and includes that magnificent selection “Polinto,” beautifully arranged, giving ample scope to the soloists of the hand. That well-known recitative, “Comfort Ye,” from Handel’s works, written for the trombone, will he played, followed by the chorus “And the Glory.” The ever-favourite “Cavalleira Busticana”, is also included, and will he given as a soprano cornet solo with, hand accompaniment. The other numbers on "the programme are of equal merit, asd a most enjoyable concert is assured.
