BLEW HIS HEAD OFF. Per Press (Association: Thames, December 30. Daniel Doolan, aged 45, a. single nan, committed suicide at Pateonga, Hauraki Plains, by shooting himself ith a shot-gun. Sitting outside his .vhare, he placed the muzzle of the gun in his mouth and blew his head off. deceased had been drinking. MAN FOUND DROWNED. Invercargill, December 30. An elderly man, ihuned Daniel MacNeil, was found drowned in the Waihopai river on Tuesday. At the inRiest to-day a verdict of found drown:d was returned. A drowning fatality occurred in the Waingongoro River yesterday, Mr A. 0. West, caretaker of the Egmont A. and P. Showgrounds, being the victim. The deceased, in company with ins wife, went into the river for a bathe, but he was evidently seized with cramp, and disappeared in about fourteen feet of water. His wife went for assistance, and Constable Kyne and Messrs J. Cameron and W. Claringbold were soon on the scene, and took turns in diving, and the body was eventually recovered. Arti*icial respiration was resorted to, but without avail. Deceased, who was 30 years of age, leaves a window and three children.
