WOMAN WOUNDED.
SENTRY FIRES THREE SHOTS.
Some weeks age (states the Sydney Daily Telegraph) a party in a motor cai' yifore .shot by a sentry on duty, and two men were wounded. On Saturday night (12th inst.) another shooting incident happened, the result being that Miss Edith Rawlings (IS), who was lying in a bed near a window at her home, was wounded in the arm by a rifle bullet. Tire Cricnmstances were rather extraordinary. A patrol was on duty, and every veld, do passing was challenged. Just after 10 p.m. a light van, with two men on board, hove in sight, and received the usual “halt” signal. The command was disregarded, and the vehicle raced past. A shot was fired over the cart. This not having die desired effect, two more shots were sent after the disappearing vehicle. The cart still rushed away. After the third shot a scream was heard from a house in the vicinity of where thf shooting occurred. Investigation showed that ■ Miss Rawlings had been wounded by a bullet, which had glanced off some part of the cart, and penetrated the side of the building. Miss Rawlings was in her bedroom at the time cf the shooting. A doctor attended Miss Rawlings and extracted the bullet. Despite the vigilance of the patrol guards, no vehicle corresponding to the description given was seen again, and it is believed the two men changed their course. The vehicle carried no lights.
