THE ABSENTEE* IT is the day of all the year— Christmas Day—when every member of the family is under the home roof-tree. Father is skilfully disjointing the juicy gobbler, and mother, with anxiety lest the meal shall not go well, sits opposite, serving the cranberries and supervising the whole ceremony; little Johnny is attacking a mighty drumstick, and—and, Ohl but the marmalade is good. ~ , Christmas Day, the family day, but with nearly always a regret that this one or that could not be present. Had to go to Mary’s folks this year, you know. Of course, it doesn’t really take the place of the absentee, but on such occasions, along with the letter of regret— - a new photograph. NEW ZEALAND RAILWAYS. RACES AT STRATFORD, Ist and 2nd JANUARY, 1915. SEASIDE PICNIC AT -EAST END PLATFORM, NEW PLYMOUTH, Ist JANUARY, 1915. ON Friday, Ist January, .special passenger tram will leave Hiiwera at 6.50 a.m., Stratford 8.10 a.m., arriving New. Plymouth 10.5 a.m. Return trains leave New Plymouth 6.0 p.m. and 6.35 p.m. for Whangamomona and Hawera. The usual 4.25 p.m. train, New Plymouth to Hawera, will NOT. run. A special train will leave New Plymouth at 9.30 a.m., Stratford 11.30 a.m., arriving Hawera 12.30 p.m. Return train leaves Hawera 6.5 p.m., Stratford 7.18 p.m. for New Plymouth. The usual 4.5 train, Hawera to New Plymouth, will be delayed to leave for Waitara and New Plymouth. The usual 6.45, a.m, train, Wanganui to New Plymouth, will NOT run. Special train will leave Wanganui 6.20 a.m., arriving Stratfordd 11.25 a.m. Return train leaves-Stratford at 6.0 p.m. for Wanganui. The ordinary service on Toko Branch will be cancelled. A train leaves Whaugamouiona_ 8.0 a.m., To Wera 8.55 a.m., arriving Stratford 10,40 a.m. Return train leaves Stratford 9.5 p.m. (after connecting with 6,35 p.m. train from New Plymouth) for Whaugamomona. The 6.50 a.m. and 7.25 a.m. trains from Hawera, and the 6.0 p.m. and 6.35 p.m. trains from New Plymouth, will stop at East End platform, New Plymouth. Trains will run between New Plymouth and Breakwater as required. Holders of Excursion tickets cannot travel to Stratford by the Sputh Mail train nor return by the North Mail Train on Ist January.
On Saturday, 2nd January, .special train will leave New Plymouth 9.80 a.m., arriving Stratford *11.25 a.m. . Return train will leave Stratford 5.45 p.m. for Waitara and New Plymouth. The usual 11.15 a.m. train, Haver a to New Plymouth, will leave Hawera 10.47 a.m., arriving Stratford 11.55 a.m., thence on usual times to New Plymouth. . ; ; Holders of Excursion tickets to Stratford cannot travel by the .South Mail train nor return by the North Mail.train on 2nd January. ‘ For further particulars see posters and booklet obtainable at any station, in the Wanganui District. f BY ORDER.
