Dr. Wade, a London scientist, who examined the oil-bearing deposits at Papua, recommended the Commonwealth Government immediately to develop them. His advice was based on the discovery of the evidences of petroleum along a coastal belt from eight to twelve miles wide, and surface indications found over an area of 1500 square miles. DOCKYARD DISPUTE SETTLED; (Received 9.20 a.m.) Sydney, December 30. The dockyard dispute has been settled, a meeting of the Unionists resolving that the men work during the holidays at award rates. Tl)e Daily Telegraph comments on the wise restraint shown in Mr Fisher's speech, and adds: A system of reciprocal interchange must benefit both countries, besides freeing the channels of commerce from useless impediments and .stimulating a sentiment of .abiding WJa! unity.
