GENERAL CORDON’S PROPHECY.
More than a quarter of a .century ago General Gordon, familiarly known as “Chinese Gordon,” made a proheoy, of which several English writers have recently bethought themselves. It runs as follow:
“General Gordon to Mr James 11. Purdy, F.R.G.S., June, 1882.—50 far as England is concerned, she need not for the next quarter of a century he under any apprehension of serious difficulties arising with any of her European neighbors, but in 1910 or .thereabouts there will have arisen a naval Power which may prove mightier than she, and should'she (Germany) ' gaih the supremacy England will become extinct both as a sea and land Power, and all her dependencies, including India, will fall into Germany’s clutches. You may live to see this; I shall not. But when the time comes remember my words. |
