THE OCCUPATION OF VALONA.
GOVERNMENT’S FIRM ATTITUDE IN ALU INTERESTS.

Messages state that the Italian occupation of Valona was declared semiofficially to imply that there was no purpose to occupy the interior parts, but that if was done merely to prevent anarchy, as rebellion against the authority of Essad Pasha was threatened. It is understood the Government intends to safeguard the political, commercial, and other interests without arrogance, without weakness and without distraction from the graver issues arising out of the European conflict.

Rome, December 28. Croatian and Slav artillerymen at the Monte Brione and St. Nicolas forts, near Riva, revolted, and reinforcements were called in to quell the trouble.
INSURANCES ON THE POSITION.

Many insurances have been effected in London at 5 per cent, for six months against the risk of Italy intervening against the Allies, and at 30 per cent, for one month, and 60 per cent, for six months , against the risk of her joining the Allies; .
