SPORTING.

SEASON 1914-15.

Dec. 26 and 29 and Jan. 1 and 2

Auckland R.O. Summer. Dec. 26 and 28—Thames J.O, Dec. 28, 30 and 81—Auckland T.O.

Summer. Jan. 1 and 2.—Stratford Racing Club. Jan. 7 and B—Whangarei R.O. Jan. 29 and 30—Takapuna J.O. Sum-

mer. Feb. 10—Rotorua J.O. Feb. 13—Te Kuiti R.O.

NEW PLYMOUTH RACES.

(Notes by Cicero.) Considering the prisie-money offered, and tire number of meetings held on Boxing Day, the Taranaki Jockey Club cannot complain about the acceptances received. On Waverley form, Fore should be, well backed for the Houtoki Plate, whilst Kauroa and Dogger Bank read well in the Hack Hurdles. As Play-off will be a starteu at Manawattu, Astor will only have to reproduce Feilding running to show up well. A fair number are engaged in the Stewards Handicap, but Avon Park is an unlikely starter, so Project and Quo Vadis are likely to be well supported; Taking. Woodville as a guide, Combustion must run well in the Lepperton Welter, and if caught in a galloping mood, Watane must be prominent in. the Borough Stakes. The field in the Christmas Handicap promises fo be small, possibly only four or five. Rewi Poto is considered a certain starter, but Wild Lupin may defeat the black horse ■ at the difference in weights.

THE AUCKLAND CUP MEETING.

The Auckland Summer Carnival, which opens on Saturday, should be a great success if one may judge by the numbers and class of horses engaged in the various races. Quite a large ■ number of sportsmen hailing from the Stratford district intend being present on the first and second day returning in time to help at our own fixture. A large number claim engagement in the Robinson Handicap, but if what I hear | is correct, Shaki will prove a particularly warm proposition. Roumania also should run well. The Nursery Handicap will possibly resolve • into> a duel between the .fancied northerner Loyal Arch and the southern representative Adjutant. The latter is particularly fast. Fashion Plate, who is a first-class hurdler when well, is nicely handicapped in the Grafton Hurdles, and Feilding and Woodville running'shows he has struck form. A fine crowd of nineteen stand theii ground for the Auckland Cup. Reputation, with one pound niore than weight for age, is remarkably well ,treated, when one considers., Ips P e,v formances. Sinapis and Prince Mer riwee read best of the others. A small field will probably face the starter for the Foal Stakes. Sutala and Desert Gold, are very fair youngsters, apd worthy, of respect. Quite a number of fast sprinters are engaged in the Railway Handicap, and * Downham and Bimeter are fancied by their respective parties, both keen judges. Of those . engaged in the Shortland Plate, Camulus and Snapdragon should .divide favoritism.
