THE MIDHIRST CONCERT.

A very successful school concert took place at Midhirst on Thursday last, when Mr W. Mountford (chairman of the School Committee) presided. During the interval a gift auction was held, when the sum of £6 7s was realised, Mr G. Pugh, of Mr Newton King’s staff, kindly acting as auctioneer.

The following was the programme:— Overture, Miss lluby Andersen; song, “Tipperary,” Senior Pupils; song, Mr Martin; recitation, Junior Pupils; duet, Messrs Casey Bros.; recitation, “A Scrap of Paper,” Capt. Allen ; song, Miss Sullivan; song, Mr Barry; recitation, Miss Hazel Smith; song, Mr Hector Mail; recitation, Miss Crossan ; song, Mrs Mail; recitation, “The Absent Minded Beggar,” Captain Allen; song, Mr Davis; recitation, Mr Hanford; play, “Bluebell,” sclipol children. Interval. Overture, Miss M. Baskin ; song, Mr Syme ; modern magic, by Professor Winiki; song, “Empire of the Sea,” senior pupils ; song, Mr Hanford ; bagpipe selection, Mr G. Sangster; recitation, “Cleopatra’s Lament for Antony,” Mr J. M. Winiki; song, Miss Savage; song, Mr Davis; song, .Miss Huse; song, Mr Martin; “God Save the King.” 1 The school children creditably acquitted themselves considering the short time given for practice. The committee specially appreciate the help kindly rendered by Capt- Allen, who collected £3 5s on his appeal when reciting “The Absent Minded Beggar,” and other Stratford friends who did so much to make the concert such a success." '

After the concert the floor was cleared for dancing, the music being supplied by Miss Anderson. As the result of the concert, after paying all expenses, it is gratifying to know that £2O was handed over to the Belgian Relief Fund.
