FIRES.

Per Press Association,

Dunedin December 19

At Lawrence, about 3 a.m. yesterday, a boardinghouse, containing 16 rooms, owned and occupied by Mrs Catherine Falconer, was totally des-

troyed by lire. The fire- was first noticed in the kitchen by one of the boarders, who raised the alarm, allowing all the inmates (of whom there were ten) to make their escape. Mrs Falconer managed to get two boxes, containing wearing apparel, out of the building, but saved nothing beyond this. The amount of insurance, in the Standard Office, is £3OO on the building, and £2OO on the furniture and personal effects.
