GENERAL. United Press Association. Sydney, December 20. The war fund now amounts to £1,015,000. Melbourne, December 20. Mr Fisher sails for New Zealand cn Thursday to consult the Dominion Government on defence and other matters,- and to push proposals for cooperating in regard to a local navy. The Governor-General has approved an order, authorising an increase of the Australian note issue to twenty millions, instead of sixteen millions. Mr Pearce states that all firms contracting with tlie Defence Department will be required to sign a declaration that no one connected with the business is, an enemy subject, and that the goods are not from an enemy country.

Under tho aegis of German agents, a wharf labourers’ meeting protested against the apathy of the authorities in allowing German lirms to act as agents. It was decided not to work with Germans; Austrians, oi' Turks.
