The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford Branch, report as. follows: — On. Tuesday, I.sth lust., we held outusual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when there was a small yarding of 169 head, largely composed of store cows, and 384 sheep. The demand was fairly good, and most lines wei'6 cleared at the hammer and afterwards at satisfactory prices: Empty cows (small) 665. to 71s, medium 81s to 97s (kl, fair cows showing youth 101 s to 11s, godd stores £5 ISs to £6 Ifis, fat oows (medium weights) £7 to £7 10s, heavier weights £r 11s to £§ lisp fidws and Calves (small) £3 12s 6d to £3 15si fair £4J2s 6d to £5 10s, 15 month steers' from £2 15s to £3 ss, yearling steers (small) £2 7s to £2 12s, 15 months heifers (small) 36s to 44s 6d, medium 46s to 50s (kl. 18 months to 2 year old heifers up to £3 5s and £3 12s. springing heifers £5 7s 6d, cows £6 17s 6d, bulls, fair yarding, small £5 10s. medium £7, heavies £8 7s 6d to £8 12s 6d, ,Oh Tuesday we also hold our usual monthly wool, sheepskin and hide sale, when we had ft filli* catalogue or 216 bales of Wool and 360 sheepskins hides, etc. A considerable number »J the lines of wool were of a dingy and heavy nature, and owing to the drop in prices at the Wellington sale on 11th inst., and to a further report from London that prices were generally easier, prices offered here showed a drop of id to fd per lb for most lines, and as owners’ reserves, iu a great many cases, were considerably higher than market values, a good many lines were passed in, some of which were sold after the sale at an advance o| Id per lb. The following prices w-ere realised:—Crutchings 6d, pieces from 43d to s'id, fleece from Bfd to 9id for good lines, heavy and cotted bush wool from B£d to B|d per lb, fairly bright wool, free from seed, from 9d to 9Jd. Most of the passed in lines are, being shipped to London. Most of the sheepskins offered were on account of farmers, and iu sympathy with the reduction, in values of wool, prices for sheepskins showed a reduction also, but all lines were cleared at full market values:—Small and damaged sold at Is to 2s each,, fair wool and pelts 5s 3d to 8s 2d each ;dead skins up to 3s 9d, salted 2s Id each, nice line of skins on account of a Hawera client averaged 6s 5d each. Tallow ,in tins 18s per cwt. Cowhides, very light, 17s 6d each, slipy 20s 7d. medium quality, but light 225, fail weights 32s 7d, calfskins (spiall) good quality 4s 6d, heavier. 5s 6d to 6s, fleshy ss, cut 3s 3d to 3s 9d, dry Is .3d to 2s 6d each, damaged Is to Is 6d. / ■
On Wednesday, 16th inst., we held our usual monthly sale in our Te Wera yards, when wediad a fair yarding of 205 he,ad of cattle and 192 sheep, nearly alpof which were cleared ; at- full values Yearling steer* (small) £2 12s 6d to £3 Is 6d, medium £3 4s to £3 Bs, yearling heifers, small 43s to 455, mediuln 49s 6d to 575, 15 months heifers 57s to 60s, 2 year old steers (medium) £4 19s, fair lines £5 12s 6d, store cows (good entry), small £4 15s to £4 19s, medium £5 5s to £5 9s, bulky stores £6 to £6 10s, bulls (small) from £5 .10s'to £s' 15s, medium £6 to £6 15s, springing heifers (small) £4 12s 6d to £5, good £6 6s to £6 10s, ewes and . lambs; 20s, fat ewes, 17s Id, jWetlferJ 20s, 2-tooth wethers (small) ,15s 3d, cull rams 10s.
At tills sale we also offered on be. half of Mr Y. H. Nolan, on account of the Belgian Relief Fund, 3 sheep dog pups, bred by him, which realised the sum of £l2 8s 6d, as follows : The first one,, put up was purchased by, James Wallace, ,Matau, at 365; reroffered on his, account and.purchased by V. H/ .Nolan, Te. Wyra, at £1 7s ,6d; re-offered on>.'Mr. Nolan’s account and purchased. by D. W. Gray, Huiakama, at 25s re-offered on*Mr Gray’s account and purchased by Mr A. A. Piper, Toko, at 255; x-e-offered on Mr Piper’s account and purchased by O. McAlooff, Tc Wera, at 2os; re-offored on Mi McAloon’s account , and purchased by McDonald Bros, at £l;,reoffered on McDonald Bros’, account and purchased by the Loan and Mercantile at £1; re-offered on the Loan and Mercantile’s account and purr chased by V. H. Nolan at 17s 6d; reoffered on Mr account and purchased by Arthur Leaver, Kiore, at 9s 6d. The second pup offered was purchased by G. E., Willis, Kolxuratahi, at IQs 6d; re-offered on his account , and purchased by M, O’Neill, Te Wera, at 10s 6d; re-offered on Air O’Neill’s account and purchased by James Drpmgool, Hniakama, at lbs 6d. The other pup offered on Mr .Nolan’s account was purchased by Air J. H. Hobbs, Kiore, at 10s 6d. Since we last reported we have disposed of a fair quantity of stock privately at the following prices:—2 year old empty heifers £3 7s 6d to £4, yearling heifers up to £2 6s, store cows and calves £5, store cows in lines (small) £4 2s 6d to £4 17s 6d, medium from £5 to £7, dairy cows in herds up to £B, mixed yearlings £2 to £2 6s. yearling steers from £3 to £3 ss, 2 year old steers £6, dairy hulls from £8 to 20gns, store ewes 16s to 16s 3d, wether hoggets 18s to 19s.
