AN AMAZING PROPHECY.

MOW A MONK IN 1600 FORETOLD THE PRESENT WAR AND

DOWNFALL OF GERMANY.

The French newspaper “The Figaro’’ has recently puulished a remarkable prophecy written in Latin in K3UU by a monk named Johannes, foretelling with uncanny accuracy tne present war and the downfall of Geiv

many. Alter a few preliminaries, the monk continues:—

’lhe real anti-Christ will be one of the monarchs of his time, a son of

Luther, he will invoke God and proclaim himself as His messenger, mat prince of lies will swear by the Bible. He will represent himself as the instrument of the Most High chastising the corrupt nations. He will not only claim omniscient power, but his innumerable armies will adopt the device “God with us” and will appear like legions of, the devil. For a long time he will act by deceit and stealth and his spies will overrun all the earth and be will be master of the secrets of the highest.

He will have wise men in his pay who will certify and proclaim his heavenly mission.’ War will furnish him with the opportunity of raising his mask. It will not be a war against a French monarch but another war which will be characterised by the fact that after two weeks it will bo a universal war and embroil all Christian people, Mussulmans, and even other distant nations. Its armies will gather in the four quarters of the earth. But the angels will rouse the spirit of men, and the third week they will understand that he is the anti-Christ and that they will all become slaves unless they overthrow this conqueror.

The anti-Christ will be recognised by many traits: he will massacre all priests, monks, children, women and old men, he will show no mercy, he will pass., torch in hand, like the barbarians, but he will invoke the name of Christ.

His deceitful words will appear like those of Christians, but his act will resemble those of Nero and the Roman prosecutors. He will bear an eagle on his arms and there will be another on those of his ally the other bad monarch.

He will also be a Christian, but he will die from the curse of the Pope Benedictus, whp will have been chosen at the beginning of the reign of the anti-Christ.

We shall no longer see the priests and the monks confessing and absolving the combatants; for the first time priests and monks will fight with other citizens, because the Pope Bendictus having cursed the anti-Christ he will that those who figlP will be saved and if they die they will go to Heaven as martyrs. The Bull which will proclaim these things will have great publicity, it will revive courage and will ‘•me about the death of the monarch allied to the anti-Christ.

To conquer the anti-Christ it will he necessary to slay more men than Koine ever held. It will take all the effo. ts of the countries for whom the cock (France), the leopard (England), the white eagle (Rnssial stand, to bring about the fall of the black eagle (Germany) if the prayers and the offerings of all the human race do not come to their aid. It has been said that 20 centuries after the birth of the Word of God, the Beast would be born again in his turn and would threaten the whole earth with those evils for which the Divine Incarnation had brought pardon.

Towards the year 2000 the antiChrist will manifest himself, his armies exceeding in numbers all it is possible to imagine. He will have some Christians among his corps, and there will be Mohamedans and uncivilised

soldiers among the defenders of the lamb (Belgium), | For the first‘time the Lamb will be all red. He will have no place in the Christian world which will not bo ' red, red will be heaven and eai Ui, 1 the sea and also the air, for blood will I color the domain of the four ele-

ments. The black eagle coming from the throw itself on the Cock (France), who will lose many feathers, but w l '! strike heroically with his spurs. He will presently be exhausted without the aid of the Leopard (England) and his claws.

The black eagl eooming from the country of Luther will surprise the Cock, invading half his country. The White Eagle (Russia), »hich will come from the North, will surprise the black eagle and the other eagle, and invade the country of the anti-Christ completely from one end to the other.

The black eagle will be forced to release his hold on the Cock to fight the White Eagle, and the Cock will then be able to follow the black eagle into the country of the anti-Christ to aid the White Eagle. The battle which have taken place up to then will be small compared to those which will take place in Luther’s country. The Seven Angels will at the same time pour the fire of their censers on

the devilish country.' (This simile is taken from the Apocalypse which means that the Lamb ordains the extermination of the race of the antiChrist.)

When the Beast will see itself lost it will become mad, and it will take months for the beak of the White Eagle, the claws of the Leopard, and the spurs of the Cock to destroy it!' Rivers will be crossed- on bridges formed by the corpses, which in places

will change the heel of the stream. Only noblemen, first captains and princes will be buried, for to the carriage caused by arms will be added the thousands of those dying of hunger and pestilence. The anti-Christ will dejnand peace several times, but the Seven Angels which march in front of the defenders of the Lamb have said that tthe victory will only be theirs when the antiChrist has been crushed like straw on the threshing floor. The three executors for justice to the Lamb will net stop fighting as long as the anti-Christ has soldiers. That which renders the decree of the Lamb so implacable is the fact that the anti-Christ pretended to be a Christian and acted in the name of the Lamb and if he did not perish the fruit of the redemption would be lost and the other forces of evil would prevail against the Saviour. It will be seen that the combat which will take place in the country where the antiChrist breeds his armies will not be a human combat. The three animals, defenders of the Lamb, will exterminate the last army of the anti-Christ, but the battle-field will be made a pyre big as the* biggest of cities, for the corpses will have changed the configuration of the country creating undulations.

The anti-Christ will lose his crown and will die in solitude and madness. His Empire will be divided into 22 States but none will have fortresses, nor armies, nor ships. The White Eagle, by the order of St. Michael, will chase the Turks from Europe, and there Will only remain Christians, and the White Eagle will hold Constantinople in Europe. Then will start an era of peace and prosperity in the Universe, and there will be an end of wars. Each country will be governed after its own heart, and will live as justice die. tates.

There will be no more Lutherans or icontroversalists, the Lamb will reign, and the delights of humanity will start.

Happy those who, escaping the perils of this marvellous epoch, will be able to enjoy the fruits of it, which will be the reign of the Spirit and the sanctification of humanity which could only be possible after the defeat of the anti-Christ.
