The Commodities Commission has approved the added . duties on ■ wines and spirits being passed on to consumers, but the date has not been ti|ed. Sydney, Decober 18.
A deputation of picture show proprietors asked the Attqrney-GpnWal to recognise films as a necessary commodity.' It was alleged that the film combine were passing on the fifty per f.ent jncerase in the film duty, which really meant a protective measure, for the local industry on showmen with regard to millions of feet of films whereon no extra duty has been paid. This meant that the combine ■ were reaping an increase of two or three hundred .per cent., and would mean closing the shows, throwing out five hundred musicians. The Attorney-, General replied that he was preparing a Jill-to deal-with combines, including the pictures. He advised that the latter be submited to the t Commodities Commission, on whose recommendation he would act. .
