[FROM OUB OVVIn COIUIfciiU'ONDENT.I On Monday night a smoke conceit was tendered to Messrs Barker, Wallace and Lamb, who intend shortly to proceed with reinforcements for the Expeditionary Force. ’ Mr Hcwailh presided over a gathering of about forty. Mr Belcher, in proposing “Our Guests,” paid a high tribute to those who were answering vhe Empire’s call. The chairman then presented each with a wristlet watch on behalf of Cardiff residents, and expressed the hope that the recipients would long retain the gift and return with it. Mr Wallace, in a happy speech, thanked those present for their appreciative remarks and the gift, but reminded those present that Brtions needed no thanks for doing their duty. Mr Lamb, who, by the way, .’s a fighting Scot, also returned thanks. He would be proud, he said, to go toXhe front with the Xew Zealanders, but probably he would feel more at home in the kilt. Mr Barker said he would do Ids best to keep the old flag afloat, and thanked those present for the honor done them.
Mr Davidson, of Ngaere, who is also shortly leaving, was present.
