Mr Pearce (Minister of Defence) states that owing to the destruction of the German Pacific squadron he will 1)6 able to demobilise portion of the troops. WHEAT FOR NEW ZEALAND. (Received 11.15 a.m.) Melbourne, December 18. Mr Hall, commenting on the position in regard to wheat, stated: “I am considering a cable from the Prime Minister of New Zealand asking for the loan of wheat until/ he imports from Canada or the Argentine. lam not averse to the proposal.” GENERAL. Sydney, December 17. Judgment was reserved in the Zambesi case and the Commonwealth Prize Court. The Anglican Church has fixed January 3rd as a day of prayer and intercession in the war. A proclamation will he issued tomorrow whereby the Government becomes the purchaser of the wheat crops at 5s a bushel.
