NEWTON KING’S WEEKLY REPORT. On Friday, 11th i nst., at my Waiwakaiho yards, there was a fair yarding with a good attendance of buyers. Mr Oldham’s ■ dairy cows were a nice line and drew buyers from South Taranaki. Good competition resulted, the herd making an average of £9 10s, which must be considered very satisfactory when it is taken into consideration that these cows have been in milk since August. Other prices were:— Choice well grown 15 to 18 months heifers £2 18s Gd to £3 ss, good sized Shorthorns, 15 months heifers £2 4s to £2 9s, small £1 15s Gd, good 15 months steers £3 11s, small or weedy yearlings up to £2 8s 6d, rough 2 year Jersey steers £3 14s, 2 year empty heifers £3 13s and £3 14s, fat cows (all according to size and condition) from £7 10s to £9 4s, forward cows (large framed) up to £7 Is, smaller framed cows up to £6 6s, good fresh conditioned cows from £4 17s to £5 10s, smaller framed cows from £3 13s to £4 6s, aged and poor cows £2 ss, 21 year steers £6 10s, yearling grade Jersey bull £5, ordinary yearling grade bulls £2 7s to £4 2s, 2 year pedigree Ayrshire bulls £4 11s to £5, young dairy bulls, guaranteed sound £7 10s, heavy bulls for freezing £lO 10s to £l2 17s 6d, light bulls £5 10s, pedigree Jersey 2 year hulls on account of Mi 1 Oldham logins., on account of Mr Harper Lepper, 7 to 9gns., and 7 to Bgus for yearlings. At Douglas on Monday, 7th, there was a full yarding with a good attendance, bidding throughout was brisk, a good clearance being made at satisfactory prices as follows:—15 to 17 months heifers (good lines) £2 10s to £3 6s, smaller heifers £2 Is, 15 months steers £3 to £3 10s, smaller steers £2 12s to £2 17s 6d, 2 year empty heifers £4, 2 year steers, rough, £4, springing heifers £4 17s 6d, year-
ling bulls £3 2s 6ci to £4 7s 6d, medium weight bulls £7 to £9 2s 6d, 3 year bullocks £7 5s to £B, fat heifers £6 17s. -fat cows £7 10s 6d to £8 16s, forward cows, very heavy, up to £7 7s 6d, small framed forward cows £4 15s to £5 7s, good store cows up to £5 18s, fat steers £lO 10s, shorn f.m. ewes 13s 6d, mixed fat shorn sheep 17s 6d. At Stratford on Tuesday, I had a fair yarding, mostly good quality cattle and fair bidding for most lines offered. Any cow, bull, or bullocks having any size and condition soil* readily. There is a distinct improvement in the 15 months heifers, either big heifers ready for the bull or the smaller cattle to keep empty. I had several good pens of sheep, and although these were inquired for, T was not able to make many sales at the hammer, although practically all the sheep yarded were sold during the day by private treaty. Prices were as follows :—Jersey 15 month heifers £2 16s to £3 2s, good Shorthorn 15 to 18 months heifers from £2 10s to £3 2s, small yearlings up to £2, yearling steers £2 10s to £2 18s, small £1 2s to £2. empty 2 year heifers £3 8s to £3 17s 6d, 21 year steers £5 2s 6d, fat heifers £5 14s to £6 16s, 2 year heifers with small calves £3 12s to £4 \ 3s, yearling to 16 months Jersey bulls £1 15s to £3 15s, bulls £7 to £9 7s, dairy cows £4’to £5 15s, store cows £4 Is to £5 16s, forward cows £6 to £7 6s, fat cows from £7 10s to £lO 10s, a'll according to weights, 3£ year bullocks, £8 12s 6d, 2 tooth wethers 15s 6d, 4 tooth wethers £1 0s 6d, shorn rams 12s 6d, empty f.m. ewes 11s lOd, mixed fat sheep £1 Is 9d. In the dairy yards I sold five pedigree Jersey hulls on account of Mr W. Vickers, Midhirst, at from 9J to 12gns each, also springing heifers at £5 ss.
On Wednesday, 9fch inst., at my Stony River yards, there was an exceptionally heavy entry, all yards and races being full, and cattle had to be sold in the adjoining paddock. Bidding was good, a proportion of the entry being cleared at the following satisfactory prices:—Yearling to 15 months heifers £2 to £2 15s, smaller cattle £1 7s 6d to £1 17s, 15 months steers £3 2s to £3 12s, Jerseys £1 11s to £2 9s, fat heifers £5 10s to £6 9s, 2 year empty heifers £3 6s to £3 12s, 2 year steers £4.105, stags £6 7s 6d, small 2 year heifers with calves £3-£s to £3 11s, pair of very heavy prime fat working bullocks at £l7 10s each, fat cows £lO 3s to. £8 12s, smaller fat cows £7 4s to £7 16s, forward cows £0 to £7 15s, good fresh conditioned cows £o 5s to £6 3s, small store cows up to £4 2s 6d, sow and litter £4 ss, weaner pigs Its 6d, store pigs £1 10s, 15 month Shorthorn bull £5 17s 6d, 15 months Jersey bulls £1 19s to £3 15s, heavy bull £l3 ss, medium bulls £7 5s to £7 12s 6d, fat ewes £1 0s 6d.
