A MYSTERY!
[To Thb Editor Stratford Post.] Sir, —Would you inform your readers why in Stratford bread has been lid per 2U) loaf for some time; when in Wellington the price for the same loaf has been 4d, and in Wanganui is only 3£d? —I am, etc., ENQUIRER.
[We »egret we are unable to gratify our fair correspondent's request! There is some mystery about the price of breatl, which—like some other things—"passeth understanding." Flourmillers allege that they are making no profits at all; bakers always sell their bread at a dead loss! At anyrate, that is the supposition. In support of the. bakers' side of the story one recently remarked to a member of our staff;: "Did you ever know a baker who made his fortune? Do 1 look as if I was making one?"—Ed. "Stratford Post."]
