TIME TO WAKE UP.

Christchurch Press deals editorially with the election and the causes which have militated against a stronger following for the Reform Government, and concludes: "The result of this confused tangle of ideas in the minds of the electors has brought about the disaster we feared most of all—an ■evenly-divided Parliament—with - a large controlling power in, the hands of the extreme Labour Party. This evil will probably take a more intense form at the next election unless something is done by- those most keenly interested in the welfare of the country to bring about a healthier state of public opinion. The public should be educated to realise that the first essential to the prosperity of any country is the preservation of law and order, the maintenance of the sanctity of private property, and the protection of individual rights and freedom. When we have one political body openly proclaiming the enmity of the workers to employers as. a law of Nature, and including in their "objective" the seizure of private property, and when we find another political party in frank alliance with the syndicalists for the sake of obtaining office by their help, it is time that the rest of the community roused themselves with a view to their own protection."
