United Press Association. Pretoria, December 9. Official: It is believed that General Beyers was drowned when crossing the Vaal River. ADDITIONAL PARTICULARS OF BEYERS’ LAST FIGHT. MANY PRISONERS CAPTURED. (Received 9.15 a.m.) Pretoria, December 9. Official:—Dutroit engaged Bcyers’s commando at Sonaspruit, fifteen miles south of Bothaville. Beyers split the commando, and he and thirty men fled to the Vaal river, near the junction at Sonaspruit. There was a sharp engagement on the bank of the Vaal which was flooded. Beyers and a few followers tried to swim their horses across. When his horse was shot, Beyers fell into the river and grasped the tail of a horse, which swam towards the loyalists. Beyers was next seen drifting down stream calling for assistance, but was not seen again. A search is being made for the body. It is believed Beyers was wounded enrlie: in the fight. Practically all his followers were taken prisons’s. Other drives resulted in nearly 200 being taken prisoners.
