HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board was held yesterday, when there were present: Messrs J McAllister (chairman), J. Christo ii'el, E. Hine, A. Meredith, E. Walter, C. J). Sole and J- Smith. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. Steven), reported: During November fourteen patients were, admitted, eighteen were discharged, and one died. Fifteen remained in hospital at the end of the month. Two operations were performed under anaesthetics. The isolation ward is now empty.

The gardener reported: 1 have noth ing to report this month. The vegetables are looking very well after the last rain. \ The weeds are keeping me busy. The lawns are in good order. I worked on Show Day, but took the half of Saturday instead.

The Sanitary Inspector reported: Infectious diseases: One case of scarlet fever and one case of pulmonary pthisis were notified in Stratford Borough. The scarlet fever case was removed to hospital and the premises wore disinfected. The phthisis patient has applied for admission to Carni bridge sanatorium.. One house was disinfected in Stratford borough, after suspicious phthisis case, who has left the district. Stratford Borough; The butchers’ shops, fish shops, fruit shops and the marts were inspected. In two instances defects were remedied at butchers’ shops. Acting under instructions from the District Health Officer, butter was weighed at each of the grocers’ shops. Stratford County: One butcher’s shop and one bakehouse were inspected. Bread was weighed at the bakehouse and found to be full weight. Seven dwellings were inspected and one occupier was asked to abate a nuisance caused by an offensive privy. Whangamomona County: Two boardinghouses, one j bakehouse, and one butcher’s shop were inspected. Bread was weighed at the bakehouse and was found to he up to the weight. Two stables were inspected. The chairman’s action in guarantee- 1 ing a consumptive’s expenses to Cambridge was approved.
