Official: Stubborn righting continues about Lowicz and Lodz, and towards Petrokow. / During the lighting on the 4th the Russian armored motor corps near Lask, taking advantage of the darkness, ran into a considerable German column, and their Maxims inflicted heavy losses. Obstinate fighting was continued on Thursday between Glovno and Lowicz: THE TRAPPED ARMY CORPS. Copenhagen, December 5. Moscow papers claim that only a mere remnant of the two trapped German army corps near Lodz broke through lO Yeresiny. Ninety per cent of the officers were killed, wounded, or taken. Some regiments were reduced to a few hundreds. GERMANY'S SURPRISE. London, November 6". A German officer captured at Lodz said: "We believed in our technical superiority. We had been told that the Russian army was weak. We found it the most powerful in the world. Assuming everything remains favorable the Germans will not soon be conquered, hut matters may quickly become critical if our generals continue accusing each other for failures. The Observer's Amsterdam correspondent states that mystery envelops the movements of the German forces in Belgium ; apparently they are largely bluff to deceive the Allies, giving the appearance of a strong offensive, while sending large forces to the eastward. The Germans have constructed a wall of conocrete sixty miles long from Ecoloo to the south-west of Brussels, whither they will retire if the Allies take the offensive.
