Invercargill, December 1. The Supreme Court opened today, beiore Mr Justice Sim. Henry .Morrison was charged (lj with discharging a revolver with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Francis Adolphus Hugh Hughes; (2) with assaulting the same man, and causing him actual bodily harm. Accused was found guilty on the second count, with a recommendation to mercy, was fined £2U and ordered to he imprisoned until the amount was paid, but not for more than three months. The accused was sixty-three years of age. John Cane, charged with discharging firearms to intimidate, was found not guilty. William Henry Laythan, a Singer Sowing Machine Co. employee, pleaded guilty to misappropriation ot £l3, and was sentenced to hard labor for twelve months. In the case of Thomas Stone, charged with threatening with intent to extort money, accused failed to appear when called. Accused’s counsel produced a letter, in which accused said lie had gone to the war as motor trailsport driver.
. The Crown Prosecutor: “He has been fined four or five times tor furious driving. If he does that at the war he will probably get a medal.” Bail of £IOO in accused’s own security, and £IOO in his brother’s secmity was estreated.
