PHOSPHATE WANTED.
A CHANCE FOR PROSPECTORS. As there is likely to be a shortage of phosphate in New Zealand owing to the war the Government is drawing; attention to its standing offer o a bonus for the finding of suitabk phosphate deposits in New Zealand The following extract from the New Zealand Gazette explains the nature of the offer:— The following bonus is hereby offered for the discovery and working within the colony of a deposit or deposits of marketable mineral phos phate, viz£soo if on Crown lands £230 if on freehold lands. The fo! lowing are the conditions under whici the bonus is offered and will be paid ■ 1. That no fertiliser containing ma terial from the deposit has bee) placed upon the market previous t< the date hereof. 2. That the raw material is reasonably accessible and can be worked at a profit. 3. Thai the committee appointed by the Minister for Agriculture to examine the deposit is satisfied that there is sufficient to meet all ordinary demand) of tho colony for five years. 4. That the fertiliser made from the phosphate can be disposed of at a price whici will allow' of it being remuneratively used for agricultural purposes. 5
( That the composition of the phosphat. I shall average not less than ..50 pe cent, of phosphate of lime (tricalcii phosphate): provided, however, the.i should a phosphate of a lower aver, age composition he discovered tlu committee may recommend that i portion of the bonus be granted. (5 That the bonus will only be paid to the first claimant who satisfies the above conditions. The terms of payI meat will bo One-fifth on the committee reporting favorably of the discovery; one-fifth on delivery of first 200 tons to purchasers; the remaining three-fifths by equal payments on delivery of each additional 150 tens to purchasers. Applications address, ed to “Secretary of Agriculture, Wellington,” will be received up to a nr. including the 31st day of Marcn, 1915. Specimens of the rock may he seen at the offices' of any of this Depart, meat’s Fields Inspectors, and a leaflet descriptive of the. phosphate, anu showing how it may he roughly tested, may be obtained on application to these officers. A limited number of specimens of New Zealand phosphate rock are available distribution to farmers, prospectors, and others interested, and will be sent free on application to the Chief Chemist, Department of Agriculture, Wellington.
