MR HAWKINS’ CAMPAIGN. Mr W. H. Hawkins, Liberal candidate, returned on Saturday night from his tour of the back north-eastern portion of the electorate. In conversation with ii “Stratford Post” representaL!/e This morning Mr Hawkins su'd his trip had proved most enjoyable, and notwithstanding the break in the weather, the attendances at his meetings had been encouraging, in the extreme. He also said he was firmly of opinion that his opponents will get the surprise of their lives when the back country returns are thrown on the canvas. Mr Hawkins starts the ball rolling this week, at Pembroke Road to-night and at Inglewood to-morrow night.
MR J. B. MINE AT STRATHMORE. [from our own correspondent. 1 Mr J. 13. Hine addressed an interested and attentive audience at Strathmore on Saturday evening, Mr Athol Meredith occupying the chair. Mr Hine dealt with political matters for an hour-and-a-half, and answered questions submitted. At the close of the address, on the proposition of Mr G. W. Calvert, seconded by Mr Coleman, a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate and also confidence in the Massey Government was unanimously carried. Mr Hine’s position out this way is even stronger thap at last election, and he is assured of very strong support throughout the district.
