METHODIST SYNOD.

A BUSY DAY. llie Synod resumed its annual meeting at the Whiteley Hall, .New l'lymoutii, yesterday morning. After devotional exercises the chairman addressed the Synod, touching upon the portentous events of the present time. Emphasis was laid upon the important issues that were to be faced at the ensuing poll, and the hope was expressed that the members .01 the SyiLod would use their influence to their utmost to bring, these important issues to a successful consummation. Dispensations were granted to the Hevs. m T. I'. Haddon and C. B. Jordan, J3.A. The Rev, A. B. Chappell, M.A., was elected secretary of the Synod, and the Rev. W. B. Scott assistant secretary, rtith the Rev. C, ,;H. Olds, 8.A., as journal secretary. ' The Rev. A. Reader was appointed reporter to the Press. It was resolved to send the x best wishes of the Synod to the chairman, who is absent with the Expeditionary Force, also to Mrs Blamires. Considerable discussion was given to the case of Manaia, and it was finally resolved that the conference be recommended j to relieve the circuit for another year/ unless it is imperative to place a married man in all the four circuits due to fulfil their obligation. It was agreed to recommend that the East Egniont circuit be made a home mission station. . -

It was also further resolved that the action of the conference in appointing a married man to this circuit was most unwise, as no provision existed for such, and recommends that a single man.be appointed to this station. It was agreed that the request of the Stratford quarterly meeting to sell an acre of the land adjoining the parsonage be recommended. The Kev. W. B. Scott was elected representative to the stationing committee, and the Ilev. E. 0. Blamires substitute.

Tho report of Mr L. E. Bassett, the, secretary of Church Property, was received, and revealed a healthy state of church finance. The current income was £4.520 19s sd, and the expenditure £sOll lGs 6cl. Enlai'gements and minor improvements totalled £844 19s 4d, and the insurance upon buildings* £23,290. Two new sites were secured, one church and two schoolrooms erected during the year.

Tho Synod expressed its appreciation of the work of the secretary, and recommended his re-appointment at the ensuing conference. The Synod recommended that tho Huiakama property (East Egmont circuit), with total liabilities, he taken over by the Church Building and Loan Fund.

It was resolved that no alteration be made in the present, itinerary system
