Meyer, of the Markommia, which is internecr-'at Rualalumpur, states that the Emden left Kaio-chan disguised as a British'.vfessel and flying the White Ensign. The crew lined the deck and gave three English cheers when passing the Japanese warships. The latter dipped their ensigns. The Emden's success in the Bay of Bengal was due to their luck in tapping wire- / less messages. Meyer opines that Gei;many missed her opportunity on the sea by cooping the fleet at Wilhejmshaven.
