N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.

TARANAKI PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. . The usual monthly meeting of the Taranaki executive of the X.Z. Farmers 1 Union was held at Ilawcra on Thursday last. Present: Messrs A. Hunter (president), E. Maxwell, R. Lambic, W. Pennington, H. Dunn, J. Thomson, ,1. Davidson, H. H. Buxton, J. S. Barrow, A. E. Washer, B. Booker and CL H. Buckeridge. Relief of Local Suffering from the War The question of the relief of distress of those dependant upon members of tbe Expeditionary Force and those of the force who may return invalided was discussed, and the matter of the establishment of a fund for that purpose. It was stated that some of the branches had money for this purpose. It was resolved that the Executive receive contributions from branches and farmers for tbe relief (1) of genuine distress of dependants of those who have gone to the front, (2) providing for or assisting those who may erturn unfitted for making their own living. The president (Mr Hunter, Hawera), and the secretary (Mr J. B. Sira, Eltharn), were authorised to receive such contributions and to deposit them in tbe savings bank. Air J. Thomson donated £5 to tbe fund. Boys for Farm Work. The Wanganui Education Board wrote stating that a number of boys taking the rural course at tbe Technical College, Wanganui, and the District High Schools in the district, had volunteered to assist farmers whose sons had joined the Expeditionary Force, with farm work during the Christmas holidays. It was resolved that the branches he advised to take separate action in the matter and to advise the Board where hoys are wanted and that meanwhile the Education Board he thanked for the offer, which the Executive very much appreciates. The Union and Party Politics. Air Dunn informed the meeting that Mr Astbury had, when speaking at .Auroa, stated that the Farmers’ Union was< a party organisation in politics, and he (Air Dunn) thought cliat this matter should he put right. Air Davidson moved: “That in view of the statement made by Air Astbury at his Auroa meeting that the Farmers’ Union was; a party organisation, a copy of the rules be sent to Air Astbury for future consideration.” Air Lambic seconded the »aotiou, which was carried. Intermediary Conference. In reply to the Executive’s letter re having an intermediary conference, the Opunako branch stated it was ai favor of it, and Hie'Haw era and Fit ha in branches against it.
