PEDIGREE HOLSTEINS. Mr C. A. Marcliant, of Cardiff, lias for some time boon building up a pedigree Holstein herd which is now headed by four pedigree sires from one to three years of age, and selected from the highest-producing blood.strains to bo obtained. On Thursday last Mr Marcliant arrived homo with his three latest additions to the herd, obtained from Mr John Donald, Westmcre, Wanganui. The first is a pedigree Holstein heifer calf from Motherland Princess 4th, who has recently finished her season’s semiofficial test with 8051bs butterfat (New Zealand record for any breed or any age), she being under four years of age when she dropped this calf—the third that she has borne. The second is a heifer calf from Westmere Princess Pietortje, who freshened at 20 months of age, is now under semi-official test, and promises to put up a very creditable record. She is 100 per cent, the same blood as Motherland Princess Tth. The third of this choice trio is a heifer calf from Motherland Pauline, half-sister to the two other cows, and who is now under semi-official test with excellent results.
The calves are all sired by Woodcrest Pietje Pontiac who was last year imported by Mr Donald from the world-famous herd of Mr J. W. Dimick, of ( Woodcrest farm, Riiton ? Now York. This -bidl is sired by King Segis Pontiac Alcartra, who is the highest-priced bull in the United States, a half-share in him having been recently sold for £SOOO.
