The Stratford Racing Club s annual meeting to be held on the Stratford racecourse ou Friday and Saturday, January Ist and 2nd, 15)16, is a growing popular Taranaki fixture. ike programme this year is a carefully drawn one, and should attract very large entries, the two open events provided on each day in provides years having been cut out and an entirely new programme of eight races each day drawn up. The principal event on the lirst day is the Stratford Cup of two hundred and fifty sovereigns, and on the second day the Dominion Handicap of two hundred sovereigns. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s spring meeting was continued at Addington to-day, under delightful conditions. There was a very good attendance, and the track was in first-class order. His Excellency the Governor was present. Ihc totalisator handled £32,350 10s, as against £30,308 10s last year. _ The following are details of the racing; Whitleigh Handicap (in saddle), 200 sovs, for unhoppled trotters; two miles. —2 Armamenter, 13sec, 1; Fiction, lOsec, 2; i Fancy Gantlo, 14 sec 3. Won very comfortably by eight lengths. Time, 4min 54sec. November Handicap (saddle), sovs; two miles. —3 Spot (Australia), 2scc, 1; 1 Breeze, 4soc, 2; 12 Sheiwood, 6sec, 3. Won by three lengths. Time, 4min 34 2-ssec. Courtenay Handicap (harness), 600 sovs; two miles.—l Admiral Mood, lOsec, 1; 2 Jingle, Bsec, 2; 3 Adelaide , Direct, Bsec, 3. Won by six lengths from Jingle, who came with a late run and beat Adelaide Direct by a head for second place. Edith A. was about five lengths away, fourth, with Brown Bell next. Time, 4mm 3 Isec. CANTERBURY SPRING MEETING. (Notes by Cicero.) The Canterbury Spring Meeting will conclude to-morrow, when the richly endowed w.f.a. race, the Stead Gold Cup, U miles, will he decided. Of the twelve acceptors for- the Pert Cooper Hurdles, Corrie ano Ngatiruinni may carry the hulk of investments. Desert Gold, who is well f> rward, should start favorite for the Pioneer Handicap. Sauci and Reval are nicely handicapped for the Cressy Welter. A number of great handicap horses are engaged in the Members’ Handicap, 7 furlongs, a race worth C 750. Antumnus (9.8) has the weight of a champion' to carry, but the writer cannot find one lower in the handicap, who is likely to heat Goldleaf’s son, but First Glance may show most opposition. A field of ton good ones are engaged in the Stead Cup. Reputation is such a fine colt that ho will probably again start favourite, First Flight, despite his defeat in the Derby, must take some settling eighteen brilliant sprinters have made the final payment for the Electric Plato of £SOO, four furlongs. Battle Kvd is a really brilliant colt, and should have Hitlo difficulty in adding another win to Sir G. Clifford’s list. A large crowd arc engaged in the Seymour Handicap. Scotch Melody and WlaDinger should command respect. The meeting will conclude with the Fenialton Handicap, 1} miles, for which event Hyettus and Rinado should receive support. 11,11 ’MW
