POLITICAL.
Mr C. 11. Smith, Dunedin, manager for McSkimming and Son, Benhar, formerly schoolmaster at Kaitangata and Stirling, will be the Liberal candidate for Bruce, in opposition to the Hon. J. Allen.
Mr F. AV. Shortland, barrister and 'solicitor, Taumarunui, is in the field as an Independent Reform candidate for the Taumarunui seat, for which the sitting member, Mr C. K. Wilson and-Mr W. T. Jennings are already announced. Mr Shortland has addressed meetings of the electors at several centres in the Ohura district.
