MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS.
BEFDRL BOROUGH COUNCIL. Quite naturally the question of the Municipal Building;; occupied i;orue time at the meeting of the- Borough Council last night. A VOTE OF THANKS. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr P. Thomson, who placed a room at th© disposal of the Council just after the iire. INSURANCE MONEY PAID. The head office of the State Fire Insurance Office forwarded a cheque for £IBSO, insurance on the Municipal Buildings. If was decided to thank the office Pqv the prompt settlement. EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY The Eltham Town Clerk forwarded the following resolution passed by his Council on October 23rd: "That this Council expresses its sympathy with the Strafford Borough Council in the loss sustained ill the destruction of the Stratford Municipal Buildings by fire early this morning, and desires to offer its assistance to the Council in any way possible in connection with the unfortunate occurrence." Councillors generally expressed gratification that somebody should have remembered to express sympathy with the Council, and it was decided to reply to the Eltham Council expressing thanks for its expression of sympathy. PLANS OF NEW BUILDINGS. Mr J. I). Hcaly attended the meeting with a rough ground plan of suggested new Municipal Buildings. In the centre of the frontage the plan provides for an arcade. The frontage would be occupied by four shops. The arcade runs past the back line of the ; shops, the stairs here running up to the floor above. Behind the shops are situated oil the right a room for the Mayor and the Council chamber, and on the left the public office, the Town Clerk's office and the Overseer's office. The building behind the line of the shops will be of only one story; and the offices on the left will have light through the south wall and through sky-lights. The Mayor's room would be lighted by sky-light and the Chamber would get light through a skylight and through the back wall. On the second floor are situated eight offices, the library and the reading room, the offices 'occupying the outside line on the Broadway frontage and the south side.
It was decided that a special meeting be held on Friday evening to fully consider the whole question.
