OFFICIAL NEWS. * The High Commissioner reports under date London, November 4th.— Official: The Indian troops have commenced to take part in the operations of the British Expeditionary Force. Their first regiments was in action and were heavily shelled while entrenching. The men were particularly indifferent to .shells. Opportunity was later affored them of showing their qualities in attack. A certain village possessed tactical importance, and the task of storming it was assigned to the Indian troops, who" advanced in circumstances of the greatest difficulty under heavy rifle and machine gun fire. Their dash and resolution were worthy of the highest traditions of the army. The Com-mander-in-Chief congratulated the Indian troops on their gallant conduct.
The Admiralty announces that the German vessel Ophelia, flying the Red Cross Hag, was detained because the name was not notified to the British Government as a hospital ship. She will be brought before the Prize Court. Berlin reports that the German cruiser Torch was mined and sunk at the entrance to Jahde yesterday. November sth.—Owing to hostile acts committed by Turkish forces under German officers a state of war exists between Britain and Turkey from to-dav.
Cyprus has been annexed by Britain. The statement that the Minerva bombarded Jevah is untrue.
