H ' V. li * Sir Alexander Godley, In command of the New Zealand expeditionary force, has been gazetted a MajorGeneral of the British Army.

A good number of friehds gathered last night at the new residence of Mr J. W. Crofts in Cordelia Street north, on the site of the burnt residence, and proceeded to go through the operation of “house-warming” in ail its details. With dancing, music, and cards the evening., passed pleasantly and all present enjoyed themselves.
