NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Friday, 23rd inst., at my Waiwakaiho yards I had a full yarding of cattle, with a good attendance of buyers. Competition was good for most lines, although prices showed a sligilt decline consequent upon the shortness of feed throughout the southern districts. Good 15-month heifers made up to £2 18s, choice Jerseys (rather on the small side) £2 15s, good yearling heifers £2 to £2 7s 6d, small £1 9s to £1 16s, yearling to 15-month steers £2 16s to £3 9s 6d, yearling Holstein hull £5 10s, yearling Jerseys £1 7s 6d to £2 12s 6d, dairy hulls £4 12s Bd to £8 10s, small cows with calves £2 17s 6d to £4 19s, empty 2-year heifers £3 2s to £3 13s, heavy fat cows up to £9 2s, others £6 lis to £7 9s, fat heifers £6 Bs, forward cows up to £5 15s, good store cow.s £1 (is to £1 19s, smaller cows £2 18s to £3 15s, boners £1 2s Gd to £2 ss, dairy cows £5 to £7, good springing heifers £5 15s to £7 15s, small £3 12s 6d to £1 10s.
At Stratford on Tuesday, 27th, I had a full yarding, cattle coining 'forward much in excess of advertised numbers, all pens and races being well filled. The enquiry throughout was quiet, but fair business was done during the afternoon, prices being a shade lower in most cases, as follows: —Choice 15-montli heifers £2 16s, good CI- Iss to £2 Bs, smaller CI 10s to CI 12s (xl, yearling to 15-month steers £3 Js to £3 lis for good, and from £2 -Is to £2 lbs for smaller, empty 2-year heifers (good Shorthorns) up to £4 9s, others £3 8s 6d to £3 15s, hulls £3 to £9, cows and calves £5 to £5 ss, light fat cows £0 18s to £7 16s, forward cows £5 5s to £6 2s, store cows (good) £1 Is to £1 13s, lighter framed cows £3 2s to £3 16s, aged cows (mostly poor conditioned) £2 to £2 18s 6d, 3-year bullocks £7 10s, hoggets 17s, 16s 6d, 15s Id, empty ewes 18s 9d. At Stony River, on Friday 30th inst., I had a good yarding of all classes, lor which there was good bidding, practically all lines being cleared. 15-month Shorthorn heifers made from £2 to £2 3s, .small £1 0s (3d to £1 -Is, Shorthorn J 5-month steers C 3 4s to £3 12s, others £1 16s to £2 17s, empty 2-year heifers £3 5s to £3 7s 6d, fat cows £6 16s fid to C 8 15s, store cows £4 to £5 15s, small framed cows £2 7s Gd to £3 10s, springing heifers (good) £5 17s Cd to £7-los, fair sorts up to £5 10s, small £4 to £4 10s, dairy cows £5 15s to £9 ss, 2£-year. steers £6 ss, Holstein bulls £5 17s 6d to £ll 15s, Shorthorn bulls £l2 to £ls 2s Gd, Jersey bulls £4 5s to £6, fat dheep £1 5s 6d, fat hoggets £1 2s 3d, sto.-e pigs £1 8s 6d, weaners lis 6d.
