PERSONAL.
The death occurred on Monday of Mrs Mary Ann Colson, relict of the late Mr John C. Colson. Deceased was an aunt of Mr T. D, Colson, of Stratford, being the mother of Mrs Walter Colson, Mr W. L. Kennedy, J.P., of Strut-1 ford, arrived in England via New York (says a London paper of recent date), and has since been to Scotland,
where, in Ayrshire, he was the guest at Einnasfc House of the Chief of the. Kennedies. He next visited relatives in the North of Ireland for a month, afterwards spending some time in the| Midlands with an old prominent New Zealander, Mr Monkhouse. He hoped j to sail on September 11th, by the Oram a. Mr Kennedy took the trip mainly to see his aged parents, whom he had not visited for thirty-five years.
In a recent issue the Marlborough Express makes the following reference to the late Mrs Macalister, mother of Mr Sinclair Macalister, of Stratford: “The death of Mrs Jane Harriet Cordon Macalister occurred at Picton, of which town she had been a respected and popular resident for twelve years. The deceased passed away at the age of oG, after an illness which deprived her of her accustomed activity for some considerable time. She was the relict of the late Mr S. J. Macalister, a prominent citizen of Blenheim, who died here in 1897. That gentleman held the positions of Chief Postmaster and Inspector of Telegraphs at Blenheim, and later was a well-known figure in local business and political circles. Mrs Macalister was the only daughter of the late Mr James Sinclair, a pioneer of Marlborough, and she was born in this town. Mr D. P. Sinclair, Town Clerk of Blenheim, is her brother. ■ A lady with attractive personal qualities, her death will be regretted by many friends in social, horticultural, and other circles.
