Bidding for young cattle was a good deal fiuioter than at recent sales, but store and forward cows were well competed for. At Kohnratahi on Wednesday, for my opening sale since the winter, I had a good yarding, all pens being well filled. The attendance also was very satisfactory, buyers being present in good numbers, and most of the yarding was cleared either at .the hammer oi privately. A nice line of 10f bullocks, 3 year olds, in fresh to forward condition, was yarded by Mr W. A. McCuteban, being placed at £9 4s. These bullocks were a splendid advertisement for the Kohnratahi district. WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES. NEWTON KING’S REPORT. On Tuesday, October 20th, at my monthly saio of above produce, 1 offered to a large attendance of buyers the following catalogue: 15 bales and 2b sacks wool, 802 hides, 5316 calf, 1/20 sheepskins, 16 casks, 3 kegs and 32 tioiiß of tallow and sundries. Com op till ion was particularly animated, and 1 cleared practically the whole catalogue at prices that must appeal to vendors. The outlook for the coming season’s wool clip seems very bright, as the few bags of fleece wool offered realised Bid per lb. I would strongly urge vendors to market their consignments early, as prices for everything is on a very high level. Word.—Crutchings advanced 2id per lb.' Sheepskins.—Keenly competed for at lid to 2d per lb higher. Hides.—Advanced another Jd, and in several cases Id per Jb. Calfskins.—Very excited market—a further rise of -}d to Id. As the date hooked for my next sale falls at tile same time as the ’Wellington wool sales, T have decided to hold it a week later (November 24th). This will be my hrst wool sale of the season. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford Branch, reports as follows: On Wednesday, 14th inst.. we held our first Kohuratahi sale of the season, when there was only a small yarding of 300 head of cattle and a small number of sheep. Several buyers were present and most of the stock changed hands at good prices:—Yearling heifers 495, 46s and 455, 2-year-old heifers 60s, 2-year-old steers from £5 10s. £5 ss, to £5, yearling bulls 70s, 20-month steers £3 2s 6d to £3 os, hoggets 16s 6d. On Monday, 19th inst., we held our annual bull fair in our Stratford yards, when tliere was an exceptionally large attendance of the public from all parts of the district. There was a large entry of 136 animals, some of which had splendid pedigrees and wore imported stock, hut strange to say, the higher classed hulls were not. in demand. , However, a fair clearance was effected .'it the hamemr and afterwards. but the prices were rather disappointing to breeders. Pedigree Jerseys, 3 years old, made up to 26 gns, 2-year-olds 17£ to 19gns, 18-month-olds 10 to 16J gus, grade JeiHP y S 2-year-olds from £9 10s to £l4, 15 to 18-month Jerseys from £5 to‘ £9, Holstein 2-year-olds £l2 10s to £lO, 15 to 18-month £8 10s to £5 10s. A very nice grade Holstein bull by St. Patrick realised 21 gns. Shorthorns were in bettor demand, and realised £l6 to £9. Several nice animals were passed in at 17gns. Ayrshires were not in demand, 2-year-olds making from £7 5s to £9. Our supplementary bull fair will be held on 2nd November. On Tuesday, 20th inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when we had a fair entry of 649 head of cattle and 72 sheep, a fair clearance was effected, prices being somewhat easier. Colored yeailing heifers from 44s to 74s for good lines, medium lines from 38s 6d to 435, poorer quality from 36s 6d to 38s, yearling steers from 64s to / 4s, 2-year-old heifers Cos to 75s, 2-year-old steers G7s 6cl for poor quality, to 735, forward cows, keen demand, from £5 10s to £7 5s lor forward stuff, medium weights £4 11s 6d to £5 3s, light and low-conditioned from £3 19s to £3 Us, empty heifers £3 7s 6d to £ I 15s, 3-year-old steers nice line £B, bulls.from £5 5s to £6 ss, small line ewes and wethers mixed ages 18s.

In our dairy yards we had a fair entry of 40 head, hut nothing of exceptional quality. Competition was keen, and prices ranged from £5 to £7 for good in-calf heifers, heifers, calved, from £5 10s to £7, dairy cows up to £8 los. On Tuesday, 20th inst., we also held our usual monthly sale of wool, hides, sheepskins, etc. We had a fair catalogue and a full attendance of buyers. / Prices for wool and sheepskins showed a very marked rise on last sales’ rates and practically everything was sold •at ■ very full values. Crossbred crutchings in bales 6id to per lb, crutchings in sacks 5d to to 64d. dead wool in bags up to 7Jd, skin pieces 2d per lb, sheepskins, pelts 2id per lb, crossbred damaged 2fd to 41,d, crossbred skins dead 53d. fullwoolled fair pelts 74d per lb equal to 5s each to 7-Jd equal to 6s each, cross, bred lambskins damaged and torn 3fd per lb, salted small 54d per lb, medium salted up to 3s 9d each.
