The cause of late delivery—or in some cases we regret to suy the nondelivery—of the "Stratford Post" of yesterday's date to our subscribers was duo to the fact that without warning the electric power current was cut oil' during repairs to mains made necessary by the unfortunate hre! which destroyed the Municipal Buildings. Efforts to obtain even a temporary supply were unavailing until late in the afternoon. Hence much annoyance to all concerned.

Though the Fire Brigade worked hard for ten hours at the Council Chambers fire, there was a full muster at tbe special meeting held in the station last night to consider the canvassing for donations of eatables;for the annual ball on Thursday next. It has been decided to canvas house-to-house, and there is no doubt citizens will show their usual generosity to the Brigade. Half of the proceeds will be 1 devoted to the British and Belgian relief fund, and and the other half towards the Brigade's new motor engine. Ridicule may be cast upon the idea of a motor engine, but when it is remembered that Stratford has the 7th largest area of the boroughs in the Dominion, there being as much, ah 1920 acres, the absolute necessity,of such apparatus will at once be recognised.
The programme of choral music lately given by the Methodist choir in Re gan Street is to be repeated in the Town Hall on November sth for the benefit of the, British and Belgian Relief Fund. The choir is being greatly augmented and will be supported bv a strong orchestra. The programme is of a very varied nature, consisting of choruses from the oratprios "Messiah" and '-'Creation," with orchestnaceompaniment, glees and part song: hy the whole and sections of the choir and instrumental and vocal solos. Dc tails of the programme will be given ii a later issue. The public of Strat-j ford can look forward to a musical treat rarely heard here, and can res' assured that in attending this conceri they will have a splendid evening's en tertainment, at te same time contribut ing to a very worthy object.
The garden party held at Ngaere or Thursday afternoon in aid of the British and Belgian Relief Fund was i decided success, and the day's oper : ations will result in over £SO beiiij; handed to the fund. Mrs C. Penn'< orchestra was in attendance and added greatly to the great pleasure of the afternoon's outing. A Belgian flap presented by the Belgian Consul was auctioned by Mr T. I. Lamason, and after being sold a large number of times was finally secured by Mr True love and realised £9 10s. In the evening a dance was held in the Ngaere Hall, when there was a large attendance. Walker, Ferguson, Phillips and Coleman, while Mrs F. Truelove and Miss A. C Coleman acted as joint secretaries. Mr Thomson, of the Ngaere factory, lent valuable assistance.
