LOCAL AND GENERAL.

The last social of a successful series during the winter, run under -the auspices of the Fire Brigade, will bo held to-night in the Station. This evening's effort gives promise of eclipsing all others, which is saying a lot.

After a fortnight's tour in the Ohura district (telegraphs our informant) Mr W. T. Jennings, Liberal candidate for the Taumarunui seat, arrived at Mahirakau last night and addressed a crowded meeting, many being outside the building To-day settlers and workers were addressed at Okahukura. The candidate was surprised at the keenness evinced in the election, the attendance at Ohura, Matiere, Niho Niho and Otangiwai being larger than he has seen during the five elections he has contested the seat. At all meetings votes of appreciation and confidence in the Liberal Party have been carried.

The local postal authorities advise: On and after Monday next, 26th inst., registered code indicators will be allowed as addresses in telegrams exchanged (1) between any two places in British territory, including Egypt (2) between British territory, including Egypt and the territory of allied Countries, including Egypt and the United State of America. The name and address of the addressee must be written at the foot of the. telegram by the sender, but not, telegraphed. No telegram for an address registered since the 30th June last will be accepted. The censor at the office of destination may require the delivery office to furnish the address at which a telegram is to be delivered. A code indicator will not be accepted as the signature of a telegram.
