The death of Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson, M.A., priest in the Catholic Arch-Diocese of Westminster, and a son of Archbishop Benson, is announced from London.
Captain H. White Parsons, master of the Tarawera, has been appointed harbormaster at Napier as successor to Captain Lake, who resigned.—P.A.
Mr Thomas Ryan has been appointed by the South Australian Government to report on the New Zealand educational system. He sails by the Manuka on Friday, states a Sydney cablegram.
. The Dowager Duchess of Sutherland has been married to Major Percy Desmond Fitzgerald, D. 5.0., reports a London cablegram. Major Fitzgerald, 31 years of age, is a son of Hon. W. Fitzgerald, County Galway, Ireland, and of Moira, St. Kilda, Australia. He joined the 11th Huzzars in 1893, and was gazetted Lieutenant in 1895. Decorated for distinguished service in Ladysmith and Tranvaal in 1900.
