HOME DEFENCE CORPS.
; The infantry section of the Stratford Defence Rifle Club held the usual parade last night, the muster being excellent. The elements of musketry drill were gone through, and section drill was brushed up. As usual tha company marched to the school gymnasium from the Defence Office and back, and presented a good appearance on the march.
The, next drill of the infantry section will be held on Thursday evening. It is hoped soon to be able to elect a permanent officer commanding and non-coms, and for that purpose a non-coms' school is to be held on some night other than Monday or Thursday, a small squad of men parading for the purpose of giving those desirous of becoming non-coms, an opportunity to thoroughly master the drill.' A sub-committee is in course of formation for the purpose of arranging entertainments, etc., in aid of the Belgian Belief Fund. Suggestions put forward last night by Secretary Lander were of a church parade in Victoria - Park one Sunday, and, later, a concert in the Town Hall. It is hoped to have all contributors to the programme members of the corps. Members are requested to muster in as good force as possible at the station to-morrow morning to give Messrs Willis, Olliver, and Horton, the corps' representatives in the first reinforcement of the Expeditionary Force. :1 fitting send-off. The mounted section parade as usual on Thursday afternoon. Mr A. J. Davey offers to supply horses for members not having a horse of their own.
