The name of the man who died at Mount Royal station was James Ross, ! married, of Waitati; The facts are that Ross and Charles Walters were engaged in a contract on the station digging'ditches. They ate a custard pudding prepared by one of their wives. Shortly afterwards they became very ill. Ross died some hours afterwards. Walters is recovering. Wellington, October 17. | William Douglas, aged 27, who was until lately employed as a pantryman "on the steamer Maitai, foil down the gangway of that vessel lying at the Jervois Quay breastwork at 1.30 p.m. to-day. When picked up he was unconscious, bleeding .from the mouth and nose, and was believed to have I sustained a slight fracture of the base of the skull.- He was removed to the hospital. Douglas, who had signer! oft' the Maitai’s articles on Saturday,- was a married man living apart from his wife. Auckland, October 17. John Douglas, 50 years of age, a labourer, of Onehunga, cut his throat on Saturday afternoon on One Tree i Hull. Ho left a letter indicating , that he was short of money.
