A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE.
The general committee of the A. ami P; Association met on Saturday alternoon, Mr E. Jackson (president) being in the chair. EX ECUXI V E’S REPORT. 'I lie following report was submitted by the executive committee : j 100 Executive committee have pleasure iu reporting as lollows:—Ihc grounds are ai splendid order, also tne 1 ouilaiugs ana pens. Hay paddocks, have now been closed up lor a loicnight, and the grass is coming awayj well. Ample tecu will be available loi j stuck. Preparations for the coming show are well in hand.. Schedules have been printed and distributed, and a number of new classes have been added to the schedule and should prove highjj interesting. A committee has, been appointed hum tile Executive to canvas the town lor special prizes, and it is desirable tnat a country committee be appointed from this meeting to canvas tne country districts for donations.
It is aisu do,uranic tnat u committee should bo set up to canvas for entries, covering all classes of exlnoits, and your executive feel confident that a large number of exhibits can be secured if the farmers will loyally support the Association in this direction. Farmers shoul drecognise that by «■
hibiting tlieir stock, they are not only helping the Association, but also thenown interests, by advertising the.ii stock and the province. Your executive are strongly of opinion that quite a large number of the eligible animals for the show ring are owned in the province but have not yet been exhibited.
Further, your executive would point out that all members of the Association can enter their exhibits at reduced rates, and as most of the farmers in the province are members of the association, we feel sure tiiat this will be an incentive to considerably increase the number of entries at the coming show.
W e have pleasure in reporting that ttie membership of the Association is steadily increasing. Witn regard to stopping the north trains .at the show grounds on show days, your exebutivc have to report tnat tney have again interviewed Mr Armstrong (District Traffic manager), add the Department have promised to confer with the executive on the matter. Pending this conference nothing of a deiimte nature can be reported.
In conclusion, your executive leel confident that the prospects of the coming show are excellent, and feel sure with the hearty co-operation ol members and supporters will even excel any shows of previous years. In moving the adoption ol the report the President said it gave him great pleasure to be able to tell -he General Committee that in no previous year had the work for the show been so well forward. If the show was to be held next week, with the exception ofentries, tilings were forward enough to enable it to bo hold. He urged on tiie members of the committee to canvass hard for member sand entries. He did not think there was a district in j the country where there was such a quantity of first-class dairy stock. lf| they wore exhibited the Stratioidj show would be the best.in the province; but farmers needed educating up to exhibiting. In the past they had not exhibited, and merely needed a start. During a recent visit to Wanganui he (Mr Jackson) had interviewed Mr j Armstrong, railway traffic manager, who promised to visit Stratford at un early date to go into the question of stopping trains at the showgrounds. Tiie report was adopted.
GENERAL. The President reported that Mr A. Hunter had agreed to act as judge ol fat stock at the show. A letter was received from the Borough Council conveying its resolution regarding the trees in Broadway North. The following new members wore elected: L. Curtis, W; J. Leversedge, F. J. McDonald, Stanley Shaw, W..JLopdell, R. J. Gray, C. Mayhead, W. Cubbon, B. J. Peters and T. H. Brown. •/
The President reported on the visit of Mr Bayliss and his address on the matter of experimental plots. T he feeling of the meeting of farmers was more in favor of a model dairy farm than experimental plots as suggested by Mr Baylis. Mr Jackson said the executive committee of the Association were still continuing their efforts for a model dairy farm, and it would not be their fault if it was not procured.
Messrs Piper and Were were appointed to canvass the Toko district for donations; Messrs Belcher and David for Cardiff; Mr Orr, Ngaere; Messrs Shotter and Skedgwell, Midhirst; Mr E. Walter, Douglas. Power was given to add to the number.
