MAORIS OFF TO THE WAR.

About twenty Maoris from, Otago and Southland left for the north this morning under Mr R. J. Dansey, University and Otago Rugby representative, en route for Auckland, to join the Maori contingent. Wairoa, October 17.
About 400 Maoris last night farewelled the. local native contingent. The Rev, Wepiha, chaplain, who comes of a great fighting stock, drilled the men, after which there was a patriotic speech, by Ihaka Whaanga, local chief of the Rakaipaaka, who fought fqr the Queen in the’7o’s. The troops, who leave on Monday, are a ■fine lot and look fit.
