It is estimated that 100,000 Germans are in Ghent.
Official. —The Admiralty reports that a British warship sunk a GermanHamburg steamer, the Markomannis, in the vicinity of Sumatra, and also captured and is taking to harbour the Greek steamer Poupoporos. Both vessels had been previously reported as co-operating with the Emden. Paris, October 15.
An official communique issued today states: “The Germans have evacuated the left bank of the Lys and the Lepasse Canal. The situation is stationary in the Lens regio-i. We have made notable progress between Arras and Albert. Wo have advanced towards Oraonne, ami carried several ttenches in the direcr-on of Seine, in the Rheims district.
