HUNTLY MINE DISASTER.
USE OF "PERMITTED" EXPLO- "* iiiVtS. ! , Auckland, October lb. Arrangements nave been made by the directors of the Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd., for the resumption of work in the Extended mine upon the delivery of a limited supply or "permitted" explosive, which lias been obtained in Australia. Notices were posted in Huntly yesterday by the manager of the Extended mine, announcing that work would be started probably in ten days. Considerable difficulty was experienced by the company in obtaining explosives that can be used without danger, inquiries were instituted immediately'!, the..company was, informed that mpnobei powder was dangerous, but it was found that owing to interference with supplies by the war the stocks held in Australia were very low. The company learned that explosives could not be exported from Australia without the permission of the- Defence authorities, and there was further difficulty that shipment could not be made in a passenger steamer. A small quantity of explosive has been got, and will be brought to Auckland ill a collier sailing from Newcastle. No advice has yet been received as to whether the supplies ordered from England can be furnished.
