GHENT OCCUPSED. GERMAN CAVALRY HOIST THE FLAG. (Received 9.45 a.m.) Amsterdam, October 15. German cavalry have entered Ghent and hoisted their flag. (Ghent. —Fortified city, Belgium, situated on the river Scheldt. It is thirty miles N.W. of Brussels and is roughly the same distance from Antwerp and Ostend. Population 166.1000. A number of navigable canals ; divide the city into 26 islands, the canals r being crossed by 509 bridges. From 1792 to 1814 Ghent was the canij tal of the French Department of the Scheldt).
