The High Commissioner reports from London dated London 13th. October (11 p.m.):— Official: Cavalry actions are proceeding on the loft wing of the Allies in liio region of La Bassee, Hazelbrouck and Estaines. The nemy’s attack between Arras and the Oise failed, especially between Lassigny and Rove. Progress has been recorded on the Allies’ centre on a plateau on the right of the Aisne, holotv Soissons, and also in the .east and south-west’o£ Verdun. Night attacks on the right wing of the Vosges, north of St. Dio were repulsed. Heavy losses were' inflicted by the Fusiliers on the Germans, 200 being killed and fifty taken prisoners. The French had nine killed and forty wounded. Paris reports that the Germans only occupy the suburbs of Antuerp, twenty-four forts oil the Scheldt still holding out. There is iio official statement from London. A desperate struggle is in progress on the east Prussian frontier. The Germans are retreating north-west of kyck and are destroying the bridges in South Poland. Reports from Berlin and Vienna indicate a check to the Russians in Ggliria.. The Russians state that they abandoned the siege of Przemysl to ( put themselves in a strategical position to meet the Austro-German army. There was further bomb-drop ggg in Paris to-day.
