ATHLETIC AND CYCLING UNION.
(Eltiuiiu Argus.) A meeting of the i’aranaki centre or tlie X.Z. Athletic and Cycling Enion was held at Lie ('mnnbcr of (.’ommeivc room on .Monday ciening. Tiioso presoiit \vc;v: Messrs .). H. Thompson (Stratford) chairman, .1. McLood rXcw Plymouth), I). Malone (Riverloa), .1. Garcia (Dahotu), T. C. Stunners (Eltham), W. A. Curtcis (Mangatoki), and .1. A. Hansen (secretary). The secretary reported that C. Young laid made a false declaration, that he was a maiden runner and had run under that designation at Kaponga Athletic Club’s meeting. It was resolved that Young be disqualified for life. .
A letter was received from W. S Symes complaining that the Whangamonioun Club refused to pay out r
points prize. The Whaiigamomomi Club wrote ex plaining that this was due to au alteration in their programme. It was decided that in view of this explanation that the action of the elul he endorsed, and that Symes he unci lied to that effect, hut that the eluh he advised that such alterations of their programme, although authorised should he duly notified to all competitors. ANNEAL GENERAL MEETING. At the annual general meeting o. the centre which followed Mr J. Me Leod took the chair. The secretary read the annual report as follows:—“In presenting the tenth annual report and balance-sheet the executive are pleased to state that the centre has again had a fairly successful year. The entries for the different sports meetings held under our rules, taking them all round, wen much better than they have been for the last two years. The executive wish to impress noon clubs the importance of being represented at the annual meeting. Each year the attendance seems to get smaller. The annual conference of the union was Held in Auckland, and whs attended by Messrs Clarke and Hansen, on behalf of this centre. The delegate;who were appointed to go, Messrs T. Taylor and McLeod, were unable to
get away.” The bnlanee-sheet showed a credit balance, of about. £lO. . Members expressed their entire sat isfaction with the report and balance sheet, which was adopted unanimously, on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Garcia. Officers ‘for the ensuing year wen then selected as follows: Patron, Mi C. A. Wilkinson, M.P.; president, Mi J. Clarke (New Plymouth); vice-presi dents, Messrs J. H. Thompson and T. Taylor (Riverloa); executive, Messer 1). Malone, W. A. Curteis, J. McLood J, Garcia, G. M. Skelton (Waitara) J. Gibb (Inglewood), A. Beesley (El thiim), and J. J). I’rofitt (Alton); sc. rotary, Mr J. A. Hansen ; auditor, 3VL E. Parrott. On the motion of Mr Garcia, sec ouded by Mr Malone, the secret ae; was voted a bonus of £3 3s- in au.:i tion to the usual honorarium of £ll 10s, for his good work during the past year. The auditor, Mr L. Hicra, of St rat ford, was voted £‘2 2s for his services The secretary introduced the sub ject of the New Zealand champion ship meeting, which be said might wel he held in Taranaki iu 191 G. He askou if members thought it possible that it be held at New Plymouth. The chairman suggested that it would he more feasible to hold it a' Eltham on the second day of the axemen’s carnival. The secretary said many of the country clubs were in a position to run it, hut the distance from railway communication presented an almost insurmountable difficulty. Members agreed as to the advisabil ity of its being secured for Taranaki but the matter then dropped. After some discussion the meeting agreed that the centre’s financial posi tipn did not admit of a contribution U the patriotic funds. The meeting concluded with a vou of thanks to the chairman. At a subsequent meeting of the c>: ecutive Mr Thompson was elected chairman for the ensuing year.
